Online Journey from Rags to Riches
Refugee Women Testimonials
I lived in Burma for 25 years. I left Burma and went to Malaysia; there was no work and no food.
The UN gave me help to get to Australia.
I arrived in 2010 and I love Australia, especially the Mid North Coast were I now live.
I love going to TAFE were I have been learning English and Sewing. I am now creating an income for myself and family by selling my work online. TAFE has helped me do this!
I was born in Ethiopia. After the conflict I went to Nairobi where I hand embroidered bed covers, cushions and seat backs. I sold these items to support my family. I was helped by Sanctuary Refugee Foundation to find settlement in Australia, I arrived in 2010.
I started at TAFE were I learnt English and I now have more sewing skills. I am very happy to sell my products online.
This is a photo of me with my embroidery (Caroline I will send a photo of this next week) which I sell and take commissions. I can embroider on dresses, bags, linen, bed covers, cushions etc.
Please contact Deb Hatley Deborah.email@example.com for further details
I was born in El Salvador. When the war happened I left with my whole family and went to Honduras. I stayed in a refugee camp for 12 years. An organisation helped me to come to Australia with my children.
I study English and sewing at TAFE and I am excited to be able to create and income through TAFE and selling my work at Gecoz.
The sewing course has helped me in many ways:- with speaking English, making friends and being part of a close group of women. I want to become self supporting with my sewing and TAFE and Gecoz is helping me do just that!
